For a long time, I have thought of (re)starting a personal blog. I had one, a long time ago, when I first moved to Japan, where I would document my discoveries and marvel at a world so different than my old one that I had to let the world know about it (mostly my family and friends, though). But the years passed, and the novelty wore off, as did my will to write about it. Beside that blog, I also created, managed or participated in many other online publications related to my various interests over the years. Recently, I have felt the need to write again, primarily to keep an organized reference of everything that I am learning and that I want to keep for practical purposes. I don’t want to spread myself too thin, and I have therefore decided to aggregate it all in this personal blog. One of the other reasons to make it a blog is that teaching something that I’ve just learnt requires me to really understand what I am talking about, which makes it the best way to discover my blind spots on a particular topic. I don’t have the pretention of teaching anything to anyone, but the process of sharing information about a topic still gives me the same benefits, and I am happy with that.
I have started a path to learn cybersecurity almost eight years ago. But because of work, life business and mostly a lack of organization and consistency, I am still very far from where I want to be. This blog will be one way to keep me on track and accountable. While I will not only talk about my journey on the cybersecurity path, this may be the main part for the time being. I will record my steps as I progress and eventually share the projects that I am working on. In the past two, three years, I have been able to stay more or less steady towards my goal; I now intend to increase the pace.
Besides the cyber world, I will also use this blog to share some of my other interests, the main ones being as follows:
- Philosophy—I think that stoicism and determinism are always fun to talk about;
- History—I have developed a true passion for ancient empires and civilizations (Egypt, Greece, Rome, South-American…), but I’m also very keen on learning more about the history of France and Japan;
- Health—I have a lot to share about my years struggling with obesity, to then having six-pack abs, to then see COVID ruin it all, to seeing my abs again…
- Martial Arts—One of my other journeys is to eventually get a Kyokushin karate black belt. I will definitely want to talk about that at some point.
If the opportunities arise, I will also write some reviews about books, movies, series, games, events or anything else that I think would be relevant to put on this blog.
This is what I am going to write about, and hopefully that will be of interest to some of you. I look forward to seeing you again here.
